Laura Palmer covered the Vietnam War as a freelance journalist from August 1972 to ’72, then returned for the evacuation of Americans in 1975. She was on one of the last helicopters out of Saigon on April 29th.
But it was at the Vietnam War Memorial, 11 years later, that Laura made an important discovery — one that would propel her on a journey across the country and, eventually, into a new life.
I interviewed Laura recently, not long after the 40th anniversary of America’s exit from Saigon. Here’s what she told me.
